In a July 2026 blog post, Nerdle founder Richard Mann said the team spotted the game’s logo in the illustrated header of Gates’s Meet Bill page. The post also recalls Gates’s 2022 video playing Nerdle.

The Nerdle cube icon was still visible in the illustrated header when we checked Gates’s page on September 5, 2026. His playing video dates to 2022; the July post describes the later logo sighting.

Nerdle’s July 2026 magazine report says The Simple Things featured the game in an article about puzzle makers and included an Instant Nerdle puzzle that readers could solve on paper. The report identifies Ruth Chandler as the writer and Gracie Dahl as the illustrator.

Nerdle’s announcement links to the magazine feature. Our summary is based on that announcement; we have not independently inspected the full issue.

The paper format suggests a useful activity: explain a possible calculation before writing it down. You can try the separate official Instant Nerdle game online, or compare its format with Classic in our Nerdle variants guide.
