What Costcodle Is#
Costcodle is a daily browser game at costcodle.com that shows a photo of a real Costco product and asks players to guess its price. According to the project's own GitHub repository, it was built by developer Zak Kermitz (GitHub handle KermWasTaken), who has described being inspired by Tradle and Wordle when building it during the 2022 wave of Wordle spin-offs.
The game is free to play in the browser, with no account or app download required.
How to Play#
Enter a price and use the arrows to tell whether it is too high or too low. The example prices do not define separate rules for each arrow direction. You have six tries; a guess within 5% wins.
Because Costco's pricing tends to cluster around familiar bulk-pack conventions — $9.99, $14.99, $19.99, and similar — experienced players anchor early guesses to those common price points and adjust using the arrow feedback rather than guessing round numbers at random.
A Niche Built on One Retailer's Cult Following#
Costcodle works because Costco shoppers already treat the chain's bulk pricing as a kind of trivia in its own right — comparing per-unit costs and swapping stories about surprise price hikes — and the game leans into that existing fan culture rather than trying to cover retail pricing broadly, which keeps its daily product pool narrow and recognizable to regular members.
