About This List#
In early 2022, Wordle went from one man’s gift for his partner to a global morning ritual — and then it multiplied. Within months there were spinoffs for maths, maps, music, films, and Pokémon. The era’s definitive index was Drew Patty’s “The Complete and Authoritative List of Wordle Spinoffs” on Medium: 90-plus games, one line each. Four years on it still circulates, and a good share of its links now point at shutdowns, squatters, or clones.
This page is the same idea, kept current. Every game below gets one line and a direct link, sorted by what it makes you guess. Where a game changed owners or homes, the entry says so; where it died, it’s in the graveyard instead of being silently linked. If Wordle’s DNA is new to you, our Nerdle vs Wordle comparison explains the guess-and-feedback loop all of these share. And when you want curated depth instead of completeness, our games like Wordle guide filters the field down to the best picks, with full writeups.
What counts here: a free-to-start, browser-playable game built on Wordle’s daily guess-and-feedback loop. Statuses were checked in July 2026 against the games’ own sites, publisher announcements, and current coverage. Every game belongs to its own creator — NerdleBuddy is an independent fan site, affiliated with none of them (Nerdle included).

The Wordle Graveyard#
A complete list owes you the endings too. These 10 made the format’s history and are gone — or live somewhere their old address won’t take you.
- Heardle — The music-intro guesser. Spotify bought it in July 2022 and shut it down on May 5, 2023 — the canonical death of the spinoff era. Only unofficial revivals remain. · Read our review
- Taylordle — The Taylor Swift Wordle from the Holy Swift podcast; its creators wound it down in 2022. Today’s taylordle domains are unaffiliated clones.
- NYT Digits — The Times’ own arithmetic daily lasted four months of beta before being shut down in August 2023 — proof that even the biggest publisher kills games.
- Squabble — Wordle as a 99-player battle royale. Brilliant, briefly huge; the site has gone dark.
- Wordle Unlimited — The best-known unlimited clone disappeared after Wordle joined the Times; the name now belongs to a swarm of imitators.
- Moviedle & Posterdle — Jeremy Toeman’s film dailies moved into the Likewise app in 2024. The original moviedle.app domain now serves an unaffiliated lookalike — a textbook case for checking where a dead game’s name ended up.
- Gordle — The NHL-surnames Wordle beloved of hockey podcasts; the original has vanished, clones remain.
- Ooodle — A daily five-number equation game; the original site vanished, leaving only mirrors.
- Foodle — The original food Wordle faded and clone farms scooped up the name. Phoodle, above, carries the food torch.
- Yeardle — Guess the year of a historical event; the original shut down, with third-party revivals filling the gap.
Frequently Asked Questions#
How many Wordle spinoffs are there?
Nobody has an exact count — clones appear and vanish weekly, and by most counts the 2022 wave alone produced several hundred. This page tracks 74 playable games plus 10 notable shutdowns, and entries move to the graveyard as statuses change.
What was the first Wordle spinoff?
There’s no official first. Absurdle’s adversarial take and Sweardle’s four-letter joke both appeared in January 2022, within weeks of Wordle going viral, and Nerdle brought the format to maths that same month.
Is Heardle coming back?
There’s no sign of it. Spotify acquired Heardle in July 2022 and shut it down on May 5, 2023. Since then only unofficial revivals have appeared; for music guessing today, Bandle and Spotle are the active picks.
What is the maths version of Wordle?
Nerdle — guess a hidden eight-character equation in six tries. Mathler and Primel scratch the same itch, and NerdleBuddy’s strategy guide and solver cover the Nerdle side end to end.
Are Wordle spinoffs free to play?
Almost everything on this list is a free browser game. The publisher-owned ones (New York Times, LinkedIn, Merriam-Webster, Britannica) may ask for an account, and some keep full archives behind a subscription.
