What Octordle Is#
Octordle runs eight Wordle boards simultaneously. Every guess lands on all eight, and thirteen guesses sounds like plenty until you notice that's barely a guess and a half per word. Clearing it is less about vocabulary and more about ruthless information management.
Developer Kenneth Crawford released it in February 2022, weeks into the escalation that ran Dordle (two boards) to Quordle (four) to this. Bigger variants exist — Sedecordle's sixteen, Kilordle's thousand — but eight is where daily players tend to settle.
How to Play#
Spend your first two or three guesses on information, not answers — with eight words in play, nearly every letter of the alphabet is working somewhere. Only then start closing boards, easiest first, so each solve frees attention for the rest. Beside the daily there are Sequence, Rescue, and Extreme variants, each in daily and unlimited free-play forms.
The Britannica Era#
Octordle now lives on Britannica's games hub — which, fittingly, puts it in the same corporate family as Quordle: Britannica is Merriam-Webster's parent company. It remains free to play in the browser.

Frequently Asked Questions#
How many guesses do you get in Octordle?
Thirteen, shared across all eight boards. Every guess is applied to every board at once.
Is Octordle harder than Quordle?
Mechanically, yes — eight boards to Quordle's four. In practice the guess budget scales with the boards, so the real difference is planning load: eight boards turn a puzzle into a scheduling exercise.
