Antiwordle

In Antiwordle the mystery word is a trap. Your job is to keep entering valid words without ever spelling the day's answer — and the longer you hold out, the better your score.

What Antiwordle Is#

Antiwordle takes Wordle's board and inverts the objective: there is one hidden five-letter word per day, and you are trying not to guess it. There is no six-guess ceiling — the game ends only when a guess matches the answer, and your score is the number of guesses you survived, with higher being better.

The game appeared in early 2022 amid the wave of Wordle inversions and drew coverage from outlets including Screen Rant and The National; its developer is not publicly credited, and the site offers little about who runs it. As of mid-2026 it still posts a new daily word at antiwordle.com.

How to Play#

Every guess must be a real five-letter word, and the colour rules are shackles rather than hints. A grey letter is not in the answer — and is locked out of all your future guesses. A yellow letter is in the answer, and you must include it in every subsequent guess. A red letter is in the right position, and it stays fixed there in every guess that follows. You lose the moment a guess comes back all red.

Why Losing Is Hard#

The design is a slow squeeze: every grey shrinks your usable alphabet, while every yellow and red drags your guesses closer to the answer, until you are often left with only one legal word — the one you were avoiding. Skilled play is about delaying that endgame: park mandatory yellow letters in slots where they are least likely to be correct, lean on words that reuse letters you already know are safe, and spend fresh letters as slowly as possible. It is a different inversion from Absurdle, which keeps Wordle's goal but makes the puzzle fight back; Antiwordle instead makes you the saboteur.

Frequently Asked Questions#

How do you lose Antiwordle?

By spelling the hidden word — a guess where every letter comes back red ends the game. Your score is how many guesses you lasted before that happened.

Is there a guess limit?

No. Unlike Wordle's six guesses, Antiwordle continues until the accumulating letter restrictions finally force you into the answer.

Is Antiwordle free?

Yes — it is a free browser game at antiwordle.com with one shared word per day, still running as of mid-2026.
