What Fibble Is#
Fibble is a daily five-letter word game that uses Wordle's familiar colour language — green for the right letter in the right spot, yellow for the right letter in the wrong spot, grey for a letter that is absent — and then corrupts it. In each feedback row, exactly one tile, in a random position, shows a false colour. The lie can cut both ways: a grey might conceal a letter that really is in the answer, and a green or yellow might be planted on a letter that appears nowhere. No row is fully trustworthy, but every row is mostly honest.
Fibble lives at fibble.xyz and is reportedly the work of the developer behind Xordle, another offbeat Wordle variant; write-ups of the game say its credits attribute the idea for the rules to two friends of the developer. Whatever its exact parentage, the design is best understood as a logic puzzle wearing a word game's clothes.
How to Play#
You have eight guesses. Because exactly one tile per row lies, contradictions between rows are your sharpest tool: if one row claims E is absent and a later row marks E green, one of those tiles is the liar — and unmasking it certifies the other four tiles in its row. Deliberately re-testing letters across guesses builds those cross-checks. The interface includes a marking tool: click or long-press a tile to flag it as truthful or as a suspected lie, which works as scratch paper for your deductions. Strong openers are ordinary Wordle openers; the difference is that you should not act on any single clue until a second row corroborates it.
Why One Lie Changes Everything#
A single false tile per row lowers the information value of every guess, so Fibble plays slower and more deliberately than Wordle even with its larger guess budget. The pleasure shifts from vocabulary to error correction: you are reconstructing a clean signal from a noisy channel, and the moment a lie is cornered feels like solving a miniature logic grid. Players who find standard Wordle automatic tend to be Fibble's audience, and past daily puzzles reportedly remain available to solve.

Frequently Asked Questions#
How many lies are in each Fibble row?
Exactly one per row, in a random position. It can affect any colour in either direction — including making a correct letter look grey or an absent letter look green.
How many guesses does Fibble give you?
Eight guesses for a single five-letter word — two more than Wordle, to compensate for the unreliable feedback.
